(Anami cooks shares the pictures of many famous food from around the world)
One thing all races and cultures have in common is food. We all need it, we all consume it. Each culture has its own comfort foods, foods that are used for particular celebrations and feasts, and daily staples of life. Americans are known for being big meat-eaters, however, many are now finding value in a more plant-based diet and lifestyle. Besides being “animal-friendly” there are also health benefits to a more vegetable-based cuisine.
Growing up in Oklahoma, we ate a lot of pinto beans, potatoes, and cornbread, especially in my younger years when money was tight in our household. On Thanksgiving each November we would gather our family and have feasts fit for kings, including ham, turkey, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, and many varied desserts and pies. It was always the one day a year people seemed to encourage one another to over-eat until you could barely move. Unhealthy? Yes! Also very traditional. The tradition continues today in households all over the country. We gather and give thanks, being grateful for the bounty of delicious treats to tempt our taste buds and nourish our bodies.
What does your culture celebrate? What foods do you enjoy? What were your staples and what foods make you think of joy and celebration? Let us know, and we will post them here.
