Nearly every traffic signal in the world is shown as red above and green down. But this traffic signal in Tipperary Hill Syracuse, New York displays green light above and red light down.
The origin of this traffic signal connects to the proud Irish heritage of the neighborhood. Historians say that the light was first put up there in 1925 and it was a normal traffic signal. But the local Irish of the area didn't accept British red on the top of Irish Green. They repeatedly broke the signal by throwing stones on it. Finally, the city's council decided to put an upside green and downside red signal to direct the traffic.
